River City Church's Story

Beginnings

In 2015, a very small group of soon-to-be friends started to meet in the basement of Greentree Church to pray, study, and develop relationships. Their call was to establish a new church in St. Charles, MO. St. Charles was chosen because of its growing population and the relative lack of churches practicing reformed theology. This little group asked for the Lord’s guidance and blessing.

From the beginning, we see God's hand at work.

First Steps

In 2016, the group moved to meeting on Saturday evenings in the basement of Llewelyn’s Pub on Main Street in old St. Charles. The first new families soon began to come. In 2017, due to the generosity of Main Street Church next door, River City Church began meeting there on Saturdays and began growing. Greentree Church continued to provide financial support, for which we were most grateful.

First School

Recognizing the need for a space to meet on Sundays, we began search began for a suitable location. The Lord provided one at Harris Elementary School and River City Church began meeting in the gymnasium. While at Harris, God continued to provide and our numbers continued to grow.

Worship in the Park

Then, in early 2020, COVID hit and the schools were closed. For a couple of months, the church   met virtually but began looking for another location. Once again, the Lord provided a place at Lewis Park, a delightful outdoor setting with a pavilion located next to a small lake. Amazingly,
every Sunday brought good weather so that worship was never cancelled. Our Sunday attendance continued to grow toward 80 believers. By the grace of God, River City Church transitioned to being an independent member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in August of that year.

The Story Continues

Sunday morning worship continued in the little pavilion by the lake until late autumn when winter’s cold weather began to be felt. Like the Israelites, we wondered what the Lord would provide. Through the generosity of the Refuge church, we met on Saturdays throughout the winter before moving back to the park in the summer of 2021. In 2022 we were allowed to go back to Harris Elementary until they began significant construction in the summer of 2025 and we had to leave. Once again, the Lord provided in the form of Monroe Elementary who welcomed us into their space.

The Next Step

By the end of 2024, with attendance reaching 150, finding a suitable permanent location became a top priority. In April of 2025, God provided a building. We purchased that which we were able to purchase. We then began a capital campaign in the summer that led to pledges far exceeding our goal. The total amount pledged was more than what a church over five times our size could expect. Once again, the Lord’s provision was lavish! Renovation began in earnest in 2026, and our anticipated move-in date is now the end of March, 2027. We have seen God’s hand at work guiding us, expanding our family, and providing in incredible ways that have astounded us. We’ve grown to 180 people attending on Sunday morning. In spite of the growth, we remain a body of believers who love each other, welcome all whom the Lord sends to us, and are so excited about soon being in a community that we can begin serving.

We hope you will join us!
